Friends in Action is dedicated to sustaining quality of life and independence for frail elders and their families. Our programs and services are focused on advancing self-management skills and well-being of caregivers and the elders they care for. All of our services are provided through volunteers and in collaboration with multiple community partners.
Friends in Action provides direct assistance for frail elders in Ada County (transportation, help with errands, companionship, and home safety upgrades); in-home respite for family caregivers caring for an elder; nationally recognized self-care education programs to help family caregivers maintain their own health and well-being (Powerful Tools for Caregivers and the Stanford Chronic Disease Self-Management Program); and an annual southwest Idaho Family Caregiver Conference, a one-day education event connecting family caregivers with quality information, resources and mutual support.
All of Friends in Action’s services are the building blocks of an emerging Center for Excellence in Family Caregiving, a community-wide collaboration spearheaded by Friends in Action to provide a broad continuum of education, skills training, direct support, and advocacy on behalf of family caregivers.
