Board Members
Ben R. Daitz, M.D.
Albuquerque, NM
|
Dr. Daitz is
Professor of Family Medicine at the University of New
Mexico, School of Medicine. He has been involved in
organizing and facilitating rural health projects for over
25 years. His clinical interest is caring for patients
with chronic pain. Dr. Daitz is also a documentary
filmmaker whose work has been aired and distributed
nationally and internationally. Daitz’s film work has been
honored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the
American Film Festival, Emmy nominations and other awards.
He is a regular contributing writer to the science section
of the New York Times. His novel, Delivery, was
published in 2004 |

Daniel J. Kunz, MBA.

Mr. Kunz is the
President/CEO and Director, of US Geothermal Inc., where
he is currently developing a geothermal power project in
Idaho. Mr. Kunz is a board member for several public
resource companies. He was previously the President/CEO of
the Ivanhoe Mines, Ltd., MK Gold Company and was Vice
President and Controller of Morrison Knudsen. He has
experience in engineering and international business
administration, issues including financing, accounting,
reporting, internal control systems, computing,
information networks, and staff personnel administration.
Mr. Kunz is a member of the engineering advisory board of
the Montana Tech of the University of Montana and was
named its Distinguished Alumni in 1995. |

Louise Haney, R.N., N.P.
Boise, ID

Ms. Haney has
been an active member of the nursing profession in Idaho
where she has held numerous offices in the Idaho Nurses’
Association and has been involved in the Association of
Operating Room Nurses and the Idaho Mental Health
Association. She was Nursing Service Assistant Director in
charge of operating room and out-patient services for St.
Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise. She directed the
operating services at the VA Medical Center in Boise and
served as a national and international nurse consultant
for several organizations--most notably the Joint
Commission of Hospital Accreditation. |

Kermit W. Scarborough

Mr. Scarborough is
currently a Senior Vice President for the U.S. Bank. He has
worked for U.S. Bank for thirty-six years, and is now the
Market President of the Caldwell, Idaho Market. Over the
years he worked in areas of consumer lending, commercial
lending, and retail banking and training. He has held
positions as Branch Manager, District Manager, Regional
Manager, and President of the First National Bank or Oregon, a
subsidiary of U.S. Bank. Kermit has been active within his
professional field, and served as Chairman of the Idaho
Bankers Association from 2003-2004. Throughout the years,
Kermit has been actively involved in community organizations
which included: Treasurer and Board Member of the Idaho
Foodbank for six years; Chairman and Board Member of the Canby
Utility Board, and President of the Canby Oregon Rotary Club
from 1991-1992.

Marian Sokol, Ph.D.
San
Antonio, TX

Dr. Sokol is
the National President of First Candle/National SIDS
Alliance. The organization’s mission is to promote infant
health and survival from the prenatal period through two
years of age. Prior to assuming this position, she was
Executive Director of ABC, Inc. of Texas for two decades.
Dr. Sokol was founding Executive Director of Any Baby Can,
Inc., a South Texas support center for children with
chronic illnesses and disabilities. She has received
numerous awards such as the 2001 San Antonio Community of
Churches Citizen of the Year Award, recipient of the
National Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge George
Washington Honor Medal and the J.C. Penney Sprit of the
American Woman Award. She has spoken and presented widely
and sits on many national boards and commissions related
to children’s issues.

Ann D. Morse

Ms. Morse is
currently the Program Director for the National Conference
of State Legislatures related to Immigrant Policies and
the Hunger and Nutrition Partnership. She is dedicated to
identifying promising practices, building partnerships and
knowledge, related to NCSL. Ms. Morse also directs
activities related to the research and education at the
state and local level in resettlement and integration of
immigrants and refugees. She has also published/coauthored
many papers and handbooks related to immigrants and the
many challenges they face.

Margaret Henbest, M.S., PNP

Since 1991 Ms.
Henbest has been a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at the St.
Luke’s Regional Medical Center CARES unit (Children at
Risk Evaluation Service) in Boise, Idaho. She has been a
member of the Idaho House of Representatives since 1996.
She is involved in several professional activities such as
the Boise State University Master of Health Science
Advisory Board, the Health Insurance Premium Task Force,
and the Governor’s Coordinating Council for Families and
Children. |

Dave Courvoisier
Las
Vegas, NV

Dave in his 4th
year as the main weekday co-anchor of the evening news in
Las Vegas, NV at the CBS affiliate (KLAS). He previously
worked 13 years in a similar position at the NBC affiliate
in Las Vegas, and has worked at other TV stations around
America. Throughout his on-air career, Dave has
distinguished himself with reports on issues relating to
disadvantaged children, including the weekly “Wednesday’s
Child” for which he has won numerous local and national
awards. Since 1996, Dave has been a member of a National
Board of Directors for a non-profit organization called
“Critical Reach", seeking to find solutions for poor
communication between law enforcement entities during
times of community emergencies, specifically missing
children. Dave has served on the Board of Directors for
Big Brothers Big Sisters, in St. Louis, and has helped to
form a new Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
in SE Missouri. He was also a board member of CASA (Court
Appointed Special Advocates). |

Allen Derr, Attorney at Law

Mr. Derr
established his private law practice in Boise, Idaho, in
1960. In 1971 he successfully argued Reed vs. Reed in the
U.S. Supreme Court. This was the first Supreme Court
ruling against sex discrimination case in the history of
the U.S. In 1999, Mr. Derr was named the Alumnus of the
Year by Tau Kappa Epsilon, the world’s largest college and
university fraternity with 276 active chapters. He
received the award primarily for his accomplishments
particularly in the areas of sexual and racial
discrimination and freedom of the press matters as well as
his trial and other legal accomplishments. Past awardees
have included former president Ronald Reagan and the late
George Halas, founder and coach of the Chicago Bears
football team. He has been published in major law books
and magazines and has been a columnist for The Idaho
Statesman and the Moscow-Pullman Daily News. In 2005, he
was installed into the Alumni Hall of Fame at the U of I.

Judy Muller

Ms. Muller is
an ABC News Correspondent based in Los Angeles. She
reports for “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,”
“Nightline,” “This Week with David Brinkley,” and other
ABC News broadcasts. Since she joined ABC News in 1990,
she has covered such stories as the trial of Rodney King
and the subsequent riots in Los Angeles in 1992, the 1994
Los Angeles earthquake and the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
Ms. Muller has received several journalism honors,
including a Colorado Sigma Delta Chi Award, American Bar
Association Award, and a New Jersey Broadcasters
Association Award. She was also part of the “Nightline”
team that received a duPont-Columbia Award and an Emmy
Award for coverage of the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. She
teaches at the University of Southern California School of
Journalism.

Myron E. Jones, M.A.

Since 1984, Mr.
Jones has been the Senior Associate, Development
Associates in Arlington, VA. He is a Woodrow Wilson Senior
Visiting Fellow and a speaker for the Potomac Speakers
Bureau. He is a past Chairman of the Board of National
Public Radio as well as a past Board member of the Harvard
Center for Law and Education. He has written and edited
books and published numerous papers on education, policy
and implementation, and mediation and negotiation. Mr.
Jones has been a consultant to the U.S. Department of
State, U.S. Congressional Education and Labor Committees,
Senate Subcommittee on Indian Education, and the National
Conference of State Legislatures. Calling on his heritage
as half American Indian, Mr. Jones was the Founder and
Executive Director (1970-1984) of Indian Education
Training, Inc. in Albuquerque, New Mexico. |
